Obituary of Anne Elizabeth Turcio

Anne Elizabeth Turcio, age 86 of New Haven, passed away on May 24, 2010. She was born on July 12, 1923 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Thomas Everett Thorpe and May Coughlin Thorpe. She married her husband of 61 years, Ralph Turcio on November 5, 1949. After graduation from Southern Connecticut State Teachers College in 1943, she taught in the East Haven Public School systems for 45 years. Throughout her life, she was a devoted, gifted and caring educator who loved her job and never called it work. Amongst her many interests, Anne was a devout sports fan. She spent many years watching he sons play baseball and never missed a UCONN women’s basketball game. She lived and saw the world through her love of reading. She was extremely religious and devoted to her church. Her greatest joy was undoubtedly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thursday dinners and homemade cookies were a tradition with her family. She took joy in the simplest of life’s pleasures and was a delight to those she shared her life with. In addition to her husband Ralph Turcio, survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Turcio, and their daughters Arriana Turcio and Corrine Turcio of North Haven, Connecticut, son and daughter –in-law James Turcio and Elaine Braffman of New Haven, Connecticut and his children Jessica Turcio of North Branford and James Turcio, II, of New Haven, great granddaughter Anaelecea Marie Turcio, sister Ellen Thorpe, brother, Thomas Thorpe and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie (Thorpe) O’Donnell. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Tuesday morning at 8:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernadette Church, New Haven at 9:00. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4-8pm.
