Obituary of Dorothy E. Myers

Dorothy ( Betty) E. (Nichols) Myers,87, of North Haven, formerly of East Haven, the loving wife of the late Fenner Frederick Myers died June 18,2010 at the Masonic Home ,Wallingford after a long battle with cancer.Born in Providence,RI a daughter of the late Lewis Nichols and Eva Taft Nichols, she graduated from East Haven High School and was the owner of Vergason's Florist for 35 years. She was proud to work at AC Gilbert during the war packing parachutes and was a private nurses aid to several members of our community.Betty was a member of the Old Stone Church who enjoyed singing in the choir for over 30 years and also worked in the church thrift shop. She is survived by a daughter Susan Myers Hender and her husband Richard Hender of North Haven and a son Fenner Edwin Myers of CA. Nanny's grandchildren, Wendy Hender Sherman and her husband Christopher C. Sherman II of North Haven, Richard H. Hender Jr. and his wife Adelma Gozzo Hender of Kensington, Christopher Thomas Myers of CA, Sterling Myers and Keith Myers, both of CO and great grandchildren, Jessica L. Beauton, Christopher C. Sherman III and Arianna K. Hender. Sister and brother in laws, Robert and Edna Myers of Hamden, Francis Bacon Myers of Madison and George and Ginger Myers of MI along with their families. Niece Una Hynum and her husband Arthur Rae of CA and family. Memorial donations may be made to the Smilow Cancer Center OB/GYN Oncology C/O Thomas Rutherford, MD, section chief, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06511. Funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Old Stone Church, East Haven. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 - 8 pm at the Clancy Funeral Home, 432 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
