In New Haven June 21, 2010 John Vincent Zyrlis, Sr. passed away at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was born February 3, 1920 son of the late Vincent and Mary Zyrlis. John was a lifelong resident of Branford. He had been retired for the past 25 years and was previously employed by Branford Lumber as a painter and carpenter. In his retirement years, John loved to garden and go fishing. John leaves behind his wife Clytie (Deanie) of 64 years, his oldest son John Zyrlis, Jr. and wife Mary of East Haven, daughter Linda (Keagle) and her husband Roger, currently living in Australia, and son Richard and his wife Kathy of Guilford. In addition he has two grandchildren, Christopher Zyrlis of Waterford and Richard Zyrlis, Jr. of Guilford, nephews Robert Zyrlis of East Haven and Joseph Zyrlis of East Haddam, and a niece Elenor Berzinkas of Clinton. John was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Anthony and Walter. Mr. Zyrlis was a member of the Old Stone Church in East Haven for over 50 years and a lifetime member of the VFW. John served in the second Marine Division in the Pacific during WWII and was part of the occupational forces in Japan. Funeral services are Friday at 11 a.m. in the Old Stone Church, East Haven. Burial with military honors in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln. Middletown. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Clancy Funeral Home 43 Kirkham Ave. East Haven. In lieu of flowers contributions to Old Stone Church 251 Main St. East Haven, CT. 06512.
