In CT Hospice,with his loving family at his side, June 30,2010, Vernon L. Smith, 74, of Grand Ave., New Haven. Beloved husband of Maria Ann DeMartino Smith. Loving father of Frances Ann Smith of West Haven. Brother of Donald Smith of CT. Also survived by his in laws Vincent and Margaret DeMartino Jr. of MA and their children, Vincent DeMartino III and Cheryl DeMartino and her children, O'Star and Jesse. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Hopkins and Sadie Smith and his father and mother in law, Vincent and Frances DeMartino Sr. Born March 2,1936 in New Haven, he was a graduate of Wilbur Cross High SChool, the Paier School of Art and had attended SCSU. He was employed for several area factories over the years including Gant Shirt Co, Serro Shirt Co and Echlin Manufacturing. He was an active volunteer for elderly services and had a love for all sports, especialy UCONN and the Red Sox. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home,43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Tuesday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Church, Ferry St., New Haven at 10:00. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning prior to the Mass from 8:00-9:30.Memorial contributions may be made to CT, Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford or the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave. PO Box 1004, Meriden, CT, 06450.
