Obituary of Michael D. O'Mara

On July 18, 2010, Michael Donald O’Mara “Don” entered into rest. He resided in Seminole, Fl., but spent most of his life in the New Haven, CT area. Born May 6, 1931 in New Haven, CT., son of the late Daniel F. O’Mara and Anna Ercolano O’Mara. Don leaves behind his son Dennis (Ann) O’Mara of East Haddam, brother Daniel F. O’Mara II, grandsons Michael (Jill) O’Mara, Ryan O’Mara and many nieces and nephews. His passion was music and entertaining. He played accordion, piano, and sang. He was M.C. for Henny Youngman, Soupy Sales and other entertainers when they appeared in the New Haven area. He retired from S.N.E.T. as an Associate Engineer in 1987. He served four years with the US Navy. Don and his group The Don Dennis Combo along with his brother Danny on drums had a standing gig throughout the sixties at the West Haven Motor Inn. Don played frequently at other night clubs through the 70’s and 80’s such as Les Shaws, Down East, Top of the Park and 500 Blake Street. He moved to Florida where he continued his musical career but lamented the fact that the people were older and didn’t stay up much past 8:00pm.
Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Av., East Haven, Thursday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church at 10:00am. Burial with military honors will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
