Obituary of Florence Mae DeFilippo

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence " Flossie " Mae Darby DeFilippo, 85, of East Haven died peacefully at home with her family at her side. Born Sept. 22,1925 in West Haven a daughter of the late Charles and Edna Clark Darby, she graduated from West Haven High School and loved Savin Rock and the beach. She loved to tell stories of how she survived the hurricane of 1938 with the tide coming into the house. She will be remembered as always telling a joke, practical jokes, and making people laugh. She will also be remembered for her cooking and baking, not only the quality but the quantity! To cook up a picnic for fifty was no problem at all. A hotdog or hamburger was NEVER on the menu of a " Flossie Picnic ". The most important thing to Flossie was her family and she took care of them well. Prior to her retirement she worked for the H.B. Ives Co. She was predeceased by her husband John " Jack " DeFilippo and sisters Virginia Miller, Claire Darby, Charlotte Breen and Blanch Neibel. She leaves daughter Ginny DeFilippo, son John DeFilippo, step daughter Linda David and her poodle Raymond, all of East Haven. So that Flossie may continue to feed others, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CT Food Bank, PO Box 8686, New Haven, CT 06531. Funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 - 8 pm.
