Obituary of Mary "Betsy" Azzaro

Mary “Betsy” Azzaro, 98, of New Haven passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 in Vista, California. She was born March 30, 1924 in Baltimore, MD to Benjamin and Bertha (Smiley) Riley. Mary is survived by her five devoted children, Maureen Zack (Richard) of Texas, Gabrielle Azzaro of CA, George Azzaro of West Haven, Margaret Cooney (Tim) of Milford, and Dale Saccoccio (Joseph) of Cheshire. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Shawn Zack (Tonya), Christopher Pontillo, Rico Saccoccio and Benjamin Saccoccio. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gabriel Azzaro (2008) and her four siblings. Betsy was such an active woman in every part of her life. She was a very vital part of Mothers of Twins, Girl Scouts, Legion of Mary and her parish. Even after her husband died, she continued to participate in her daughters' lives, living with one and then the other. She spent time with her daughter in Cheshire and then California, enjoying being surrounded by parts of her family. She is now united once again with her beloved husband, Bob. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11 A.M. in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Bernadette, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven CT with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Funeral services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
