Ernesto Cuevas, 90, of New Haven CT. passed away on June 19, surrounded by his family.Ernesto was born on October 25, 1932, to Ernesto and Berta Cuevas, in Santiago Chile. He was the 4th of 11 brothers and sisters.
After he graduated from High School, he went into law- enforcement, where he worked for more than 40 years. Ernesto immigrated to the USA in 1990 following an invitation made by his older sister.
He was a 31st degree Mason, loved classical music, to read books, play chess, enjoyed a glass of wine, even better if it was a Chilean wine, and he loved to write. But, above everything, Ernesto had a heart of gold! He always made sure he looked out for everyone and found a way to help.
He is survived by his daughter Sonia Maria Cuevas of Chile, granddaughters Maria Victoria and Magdalena Sofia Dinamarca of Chile, by his siblings Maria Rocca of Virginia, Alicia Ibarra of Guilford, Mariana Cuevas of Chile, Manuel Cuevas of Chile and Celia Munoz of North Carolina, many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Ernesto was predeceased by his parents Ernesto and Berta Cuevas of New Haven and his brothers Francisco Javier Cuevas of Guilford and Luis Armando Cuevas of Branford.
Ernesto requested cremation and there will be no services held upon his wishes.
Ernesto’s family is especially grateful to Alicia Goyenechea, his niece, for taking care of him with dedication and love for the last three years.
His favorite quote: “I am better than yesterday, and worse than tomorrow”.
