Loretta (Pellegrino) O’Mara, 89 of East Haddam, formerly of New Haven passed away October 19, 2023. She was born January 11, 1934 in New Haven to Angelo and Matilda (Wandalear) Pellegrino. Loretta is survived by her loving and dedicated son, Dennis O’Mara (Ann) of East Haddam along with two grandchildren she adored, Michael O’Mara (Gillian) and Ryan O’Mara (Corinne) and three great grandchildren, April O’Mara, Beatrix O’Mara and Loretta O’Mara. She is also survived by a sister, Susan Clarke of Branford. Loretta is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Louis and Richard Pellegrino. The oldest daughter of four children, she made her way since she was 19 years old as an independent woman who worked full-time when it wasn't the norm. After graduating Laurelton Hall and attending Whitney Avenue Secretarial School, she struck out to work. She got married and raised her son and later went on to be a respected worker and citizen of New Haven. She loved and helped her family and cherished her friends. Her later years were spent with her son and daughter-in-law in East Haddam Connecticut. There she brought her sweet hardworking and loving spirit to that town, which was the better for it. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home & Cremation Service (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven from 9 AM until 10:30 A.M. at which time her funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
