James J. Malone, 74 of Guilford passed away February 23, 2024 at Ct Hospice in Branford. He was born January 21, 1950 in New Haven to James and Gleneida (Sanderson) Malone. James is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Lynne (Kotowski) Malone and two loving daughters; Shauna Onofrey (Kurt) of Randolph, MA and Megan Granato (Matthew) of Madison along with three grandchildren he adored; Stephen Onofrey, Penelope Onofrey and Garrett Granato. He is also survived by his two sisters; Gleneida Motzko of Ledyard and Cathy Saville (Richard) of Branford, a nephew, Donald Motzko (Jessica) and two nieces; Melissa Gouveia (Jose) and Christa Trudeau (Eric). James is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret “Maggie” Malone. “Jim” grew up in East Haven and was a track star at East Haven High School (class of 1968). He and Lynne were high school sweethearts, settling in Guilford to raise their family. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union, Local 90. His 50 year career culminated in working as the Local's Business Development Representative. Jim also served Local 90 in elected positions, including as Vice President starting in 2010. He and Lynne were fortunate to spend their years after retirement traveling to various locations including Ireland, Iceland, Alaska, Switzerland, and Portugal. Jim loved to help people. He was a 16-year friend of Bill W and found strength in sharing in that fellowship. Jim was a loyal friend who lived to serve and would drop anything to help his sisters, daughters, and friends. Jim loved spending time with family, rooting for the NY Yankees, tinkering in his basement or garage, walking the beaches in Maine, improving his photography, hosting extended family for Christmas Eve, taking in the quiet of Lake Harwinton, and enjoying a good cup of coffee or cone of ice cream. He fought a short but fierce battle with metastatic bladder cancer before being called home to God. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 2 to 5 P.M. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home & Cremation Service (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Monday, March 4, in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
